As more vendors adopt the SaaS strategy in development of their Ambulatory EMR, you should find that adoption within smaller Ambulatory Practices will increase. The current implementation model (Local Server) for most vendors is very hardware and bandwidth oriented, making for a complex implementation and a costly support model for smaller practices. As these burdens decrease with SaaS (i.e. Web-based delivery) we should see increased acceptance. Unfortunately, current vendors who offer Practice Management via SaaS, have somewhat under-developed EMR products, those vendors with sophisticated EMR systems (those that can meet the functionality described in the draft "Meaningful Use" standards) still adhere to the "Local Server" model, which smaller practices find hard to swallow.
